SMI Association of Malaysia

SMI Association Malaysia was established on 13th July 1995 with the objectives
of promoting, providing supports, services and solutions towards the best
interest of small and medium businesses in Malaysia. Since the inception,
the National Association has been organizing numerous mega and international
conferences, seminars, award presentations, roadshows, exhibitions and conventions,
and localized projects to educate, elevate and expose small and medium businesses
in Malaysia. The National Association is also actively engaged in dialogs
with the various Ministries and Government Agencies to reflect and provide
feedback on the needs and improvement required for a stronger and more professional
small and medium businesses. The National Association has also been invited
to submit numerous memorandums giving its views and opinions on key issues
in charting the economic direction towards Vision 2020.

Mission
- To instill and eventually ingrain deeply the concept of
a learning organization into the small and medium businesses and
encourage
them to be export-oriented.
Objectives
- To forge smart partnership with small and medium businesses
with the aim to develop their skills, systems, strategies and structures.
- To look into and address member’s grouses and grievances.
- To facilitate member’s needs and requirements in
their business endeavors.
- To offer appropriate solutions to member’s woes and
problems.
- To provide networking support to members thereby open-up
unlimited business opportunity
- To serve members with utmost sincerity
General Prespective of SMEs
A nationwide Census on Establishment and Enterprises was conducted
in 2005 on business enterprises in the agriculture, manufacturing and
services sectors. A preliminary assessment based on the 523,132 business
establishments that responded to the Census indicated that 99.2% or
518,996 of the business establishments are SMEs, of which 411,849 are
micro enterprises. Most of the SMEs (86.5% or 449,004) are in the services
sector, mainly engaged in the retail business, restaurant, wholesale,
transportation and communication, and professional services. 7.3% or
37,866 SMEs are in the manufacturing sector, mainly in the textile
and apparel, metal and mineral products, and food and beverages industries.
6.2% or 32,126 SME are involved in the agriculture sector, mostly in
food crops, market produce and horticulture, and livestock.
Definition of SME
Generally, SME (Small Medium Enterprise) is the broader term of SMI
(Small Medium Industry) and is defined in two categories:
- Manufacturing, Manufacturing-Related Services and Agro-based
Industries
"Small and medium enterprises in the manufacturing, manufacturing
related services and agro-based industries with full-time employees
not exceeding 150 OR with annual sales turnover not exceeding RM25
million"
- Services, Primary Agriculture and Information & Communication
Technology
"Small and medium enterprises in the services, primary agriculture
and Information & Communication Technology (ICT) sectors with
full-time employees not exceeding 50 OR with annual sales turnover
not exceeding
RM5 million"

DISTRIBUTIVE TRADE BUREAU
OBJECTIVE
To advice and assist all registered SMI members
in relation to matters pertaining to the distribution of Traditional
and Modern
Trades.
VISION
- To foster better relationship between distribution of Traditional and Modern Trades.
- To have a better communication between SMI members and the traders.
- To have a better platform to voice concern over distribution and the Government Agencies.
- To ensure better feedback on the distributive trade trend.
- To foster better partnership between SMI members and the distributive trades.
- To ensure any incentives offered by Government Agencies to SMI members are been disseminated.
MEMBERSHIP
Our Registration Fee is RM100.00 (One-Time Payment) and the yearly renewable Membership Fee is RM100.00. Payment to be made after registration. This membership is only for Malaysian registered companies.
